“We can’t think of a better way to honor our station’s anniversary than to help a local cat rescue organization like Safe Haven. Right now, they like many animal rescue organization need help especially now that kitten season is here” said Nohl Rosen of Cat Galaxy.

Cat Galaxy first began broadcasting on April 21, 2001 and gained worldwide recognition for creating the first and still to this day the only radio station for cats in existence. While Cat Galaxy entertains cats worldwide, it also was established to promote cat related causes and as another outlet to get cats adopted.

Cat lovers will certainly have something to meow and purr about as Cat Galaxy airs its newest series this Summer called The Street Cats Of Phoenix: The Cats Of Safe Haven. The show which will air on the station’s internet TV for cats will give an inside look at Safe Haven For Animals, a local no-kill animal shelter for cats which is located in the Phoenix metro area.

The series will not only show just how much hard work goes into keeping a no-kill cat shelter operating but also present stories about the cats and also share stories with the volunteers and rescuers as well.

Two trailers for the series have already been posted online and it has created a buzz amongst cat lovers. When Cat Galaxy starts airing the episodes this Summer, it might not only gather more donations for Safe Haven but also get some cats adopted as well.

“Cats and those who love them will certainly enjoy this series. It’s pretty unique and there will be no shortage of good stories to tell. Almost all of the cats we’ll be featuring will be looking for good and loving forever homes. No doubt, Safe Haven is a special place which is doing a lot of great things to help cats so we thought their story is a good one to share,” said Nohl Rosen of Cat Galaxy.

Though it’s been over 1 month since a Doritos commercial featuring a cat killing dog aired during the Super Bowl, cat lovers are still remaining firm that they will no longer be buying any Frito Lay or PepsiCo products as a result of the offending ad. Cat Galaxy, an internet radio and TV station for cats that started the boycott and also a petition to have the anti-cat ad removed from further airplay announced that cat lovers have a lot to be proud of by standing their ground.

“This boycott has indeed made a difference by bringing to light that the issue of animal cruelty is a serious one. The killing of cats is not a laughing matter and no company should be producing a commercial that clearly says that it’s acceptable or funny. Those who’ve joined the boycott have made a difference in the lives of animals and have every right to be proud of the stand they’ve made. Those who love truly animals, especially cats have made it clear that they won’t support companies that display a message that killing a cat should be seen as humorous. This boycott has indeed made an impact,” said Nohl Rosen of Cat Galaxy.

One cat lover said the Doritos commercial hit home for them and echoed the sentiment of others who shared similar experiences. They had a clear and direct message for Frito Lay and PepsiCo.

“I lost a cat to a dog attack. I was devastated for months. Clearly you have no sympathy for what that was like for me. I’ll never buy Doritos or Pepsi products again. There is nothing funny about killing pets, dog included,” said Toby Smith who lives in Arizona.

Helen Leeper, a cat lover from Idaho certainly shared something in common with Smith, and like many was hoping Frito Lay & PepsiCo would finally pull the ad from the airwaves after writing them.

“I sent Frito-Lay an email expressing my concern because every time I see the commercial it brings to mind of my own cat murdered by a dog. They said they would consider my email. Silly me I thought they were done with it, but it aired today in Boise for the first time in a while. When I go into the store and see Dorito’s on the shelf, I just want to rip them down and trample them the way my cat was attacked. I’m done with all of Pepsi products,” Leeper said.

It’s indeed unknown whether or not Frito Lay or PepsiCo will finally pull the ad from the further airplay but cat lovers that have joined the boycott are indeed remaining steadfast that they’ll be taking their business elsewhere.

Every single day more and more cat lovers are standing up and saying they will no longer purchase any Frito Lay or PepsiCo. What started the fire was a Doritos ad that aired during the Super Bowl that featured a cat killing dog which bribes his owner to look the other way with a bag Doritos after he kills the cat.

While the ad was consumer created the message was pretty clear. There is no more taste in advertising. Instead of disqualifying Jonathan Friedman’s offensive entry, Man’s Best Friend they reward him with $1 million. Some have said that the commercial is funny and those that find it offensive should lighten up. Since when is killing a cat or promoting animal cruelty humorous? The truth is, it isn’t. Those who product commercials as appalling as the one Mr. Friedman produced shouldn’t be rewarded for it.

This commercial stereotypes cats in a very negative way. It says that cats aren’t worth more than a bag of chips and like movies and TV shows casts the cat as the bad guy and the dog as the hero. Of course, this ad failed miserably, since it not only sent the message that killing a cat is acceptable but also paints all dogs as being killers. Great Danes certainly got a bad wrap on this one as well since the breed is usually a gentle giant. Overall, Frito Lay and PepsiCo obviously didn’t use brain capacity when they decided to allow consumers to produce the commercials. It’s obvious they took the cheap way out on this one. And like all those that try to save money, they’ll end up losing it as more animal loving consumers decide to spend their money on products produced by their competition.

According to news reports, Friedman’s commercial cost him only $20 to make. Then again, to many cat lovers he’ll now be branded and rightfully so as a cat hater. It’s pretty obvious that Frito Lay and PepsiCo by allowing the commercial to air are no friends to cats either.

Simply put, this commercial was horrifying and promotes that the killing of cats and animal cruelty is humorous. It isn’t and cat lovers and animal advocates across the world are now making their voices heard by not only signing the petition to have the offensive anti-cat pulled but also are deciding not to by any Frito Lay or PepsiCo products. So far over 2,200 signatures have been collected to end this commercial’s run. Imagine if everyone of those people that are boycotting Frito Lay and PepsiCo spent $100 a month buying their products, that would add up to about $2.4 million or more per year. That’s quite a loss especially since the petition is growing. Imagine if 10,000 signatures is collected. Then over the course of a year they could lose $12 million or more. It’s quite a loss to take no matter how small or large your company might be.

The amazing part is just how passive a lot of people are on the issue of animal abuse. Would these same people that think the Doritos commercial is funny be laughing if this was a human child being buried by an adult holding a shovel? Even still, would they also find it equally appealing if the person burying the child bribed another person with a bag of Doritos to look the other way? More than likely, they might be outraged.

Animal cruelty is no joke and it happens everyday in this country. It’s a serious issue and it happens a lot in this country. Just recently a man in Bakersfield, California was arrested for animal cruelty after he skinned cats alive, decapitated and ate them. His neighbors reported to police about the painful cries they heard before the cats were killed. Is it possible that those that find the Doritos commercial funny will find this one as equally amusing? It’d be disturbing if they did.

The Doritos commercial showed just how de-sensitized people have become about the issue of animal cruelty. Cats aren’t property. They’re living, breathing creatures that are intelligent, beautiful and full of love. Many cat lovers see their cats as family and have respect for them. Those that found the commercial funny obviously feel differently and whether they know it or not, by their laughter and saying the ad is “just a commercial” more or less state they support animal cruelty. What kind of message does that send to the human children out there?

If we don’t stand up and take a stand against the killing of cats or animal cruelty now, then when will we do it? Do our own cats have to pay a deadly penalty before we act? We sure hope not.

Please sign the petition to get the Doritos commercial off the air. You can find it at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/doritos-commercial-is-offensive-to-cats-cat-lovers.

As the boycott against Frito Lay and PepsiCo continues, some that saw the Doritos commercial about a cat killing and found it amusing are telling those offended by it to lighten up or telling them “it’s just a joke.” Obviously, those crazy people thinking a commercial that clearly says that killing a cat is OK and is no big deal probably never have witnessed animal cruelty first hand. So, Cat Galaxy put together a video and posted it online to show that animal cruelty is no laughing matter.

The video called Animal Cruelty Is No Comedy shows a real case of animal cruelty which took place 3 years ago where a Mesa, AZ man tried to feed a 6 week old kitten to his snake. When the snake wouldn’t even bother the kitten, he then kicked her like a football until she died.

Cat Galaxy is hoping to the footage would make people realize that animal cruelty is real and that the Doritos commercial that aired during the big game sends the wrong message. It also asks those who laughed at the ad and see it as a joke to see if they still find the topic of animal abuse as funny.

After seeing the video will those who thought the commercial about a dog killing a cat is funny? We hope not.

You can find the video online at Cat Galaxy’s web site at www.catgalaxymedia.com.

While the boycott against Frito Lay and PepsiCo continues to gain more support over an offensive anti-cat Doritos commercial that aired during the 2012 Super Bowl, cat lovers are not only voicing their disgust with the ad but also sharing stories about how their cats and companion animals have fallen victim to abuse.

Charles Jannuzi, who currently lives in Japan shared that the Doritos commercial brings back bad memories for him and his cat Sebastian who was rescued from an abusive situation.

“First, he was a kept cat who was abandoned. Then some people in the neighborhood where he had to live threw rocks at him and injured him. Someone was trying to poison him when I brought him inside. That was because he had been living in an abandoned house near campus and the real estate people had decided to get rid of the cats and knock down the building,” said Jannuzi.

The Doritos commercial especially struck a raw cord with Steve Hendrickson and his girlfriend from Missouri after they saw the ad.

“My girlfriend recently lost her cat. She cried for over a week. She’s just now starting to get over it and then she sees that commercial. What started out as a fun evening quickly turned into a very depressing night. She became very quiet and barely said a word,” Your commercial reminded her of her cat and brought back all of the painful memories of it’s death,” said Hendrickson.

One signer of the petition also mentioned their painful memory of losing a cat to a dog attack and found the Doritos ad very horrifying.

“It hit me hard. I just had two pit bulls come up on my porch last week and killed one of my rescue ferals. She had a broken leg for 2 years, and was laying on my heated blanket. In 7 years I could never touch her. I caught her after 5 years, and about 25 batches of kittens I rescued and found homes for. She didn’t stand a chance to get away from these dogs.I live in a subdivision. The owners are responsible. But seeing this commercial was hard to swallow,” said J. Skinner from South Carolina.

Sandra Steinberg of Virginia also shared a similar story with that of Mr. Skinner’s.

“I lost a cat to 2 dogs who were owned but allowed to roam freely through the neighborhood in the early morning hours. They also killed my neighbor’s cat. It wasn’t funny. It was heartbreaking and unnecessary. That owner should have had his fictive dog under control. The ad is cruel and insensitive,” she added.

The ad didn’t just affect cat lovers but those who have a fondness for all animals.

“This commercial really upset me. Several years ago we lost a ferret, posted signs, and started receiving crank calls (use your imagination). The Doritos commercial brought back those ugly memories,” said Sandy Kay who lives in Arizona.

Some of those that signed the petition were quick to point out how the Doritos commercial could impact our youth and seems to give them the affirmation that killing a cat or abusing an animal is acceptable. Dr. Elizabeth Flum a mental health councilor in Ohio who works with delinquent youth says children could get a very negative message from the Doritos ad.

“Many of these young men have little feeling for animals, particularly cats. Over many years I have seen a link between cruelty to animals and violence toward other humans. I find the Doritos commercial offensive because it trivializes the suffering and death of a cat,” she said.

Barbara Roe who lives in Kansas says the Doritos ad not only advocates that killing a cat is ok but also can put dogs in a bad light and that it perpetuates the stereotype that all dogs are bad.

“In the past I had both a cat and a dog who adored each other and played happily together. The dog was a 60 pound German Shepherd Dog/Australian Cattle Dog and the cat was a 15 pound domestic shorthair she could have killed with one bite, but she didn’t because they regarded each other as brother and sister. She was his baby sister and if someone accidentally stepped on her toe and she yelped the cat came running to see if she were alright. In his last illness the cat watched over the dog because she had hurt her leg, until he was so ill he had to be euthanized. She mourned her big brother so badly that it contributed to her own last illness and euthanasia less than five months later. Dogs and cats can live in harmony and love. The idea of a dog killing a cat in a commercial is repulsive,” Roe said strongly.

Though critics of the boycott have stated that the Doritos ad is funny and suggested that those that support it are crazy or just plain being ridiculous, Nohl Rosen of Cat Galaxy which started the boycott had a different view.

“There’s nothing funny about killing a cat or animal abuse. The commercial clearly sent a message that it’s acceptable. That’s just plain wrong and it’s a shame that some have become so desensitized to the issue of animal cruelty,” Rosen said.

The petition to have the Doritos commercial removed from the airwaves has reached over 1,800 signatures.

Everyday more cat and animal lovers worldwide are making their feelings known about the very offensive and anti-cat Doritos commercial that aired during the Super Bowl. Over 1,700 cat lovers from around the world have signed the online petition started by Cat Galaxy to have the offensive ad removed from further broadcasting. Many of them have said they no longer will be buying Frito Lay and PepsiCo products. Here are some of the latest postings from those that have signed petition to have the offensive commercial completely removed from further airplay.

Sandy Kay, AZ
“This commercial really upset me. Several years ago we lost a ferret, posted signs, and started receiving crank calls (use your imagination). The Doritos commercial brought back those ugly memories. Had the poster featured a small missing dog, people would not have thought the commercial cute.”

Theresa Snook, United Kingdom
“Hope a commercial like this would never be shown in the U.K. As a cat lover I was disgusted to hear that such a commercial existed. Its not clever, and its not funny.”

John Korbelik, AZ
“When I first watched it I found it troubling. I like all animals and do not appreciate the fact that they would think animal cruelty would be funny.”

Ann Hansen, UT
“I’m glad to see this petition because I thought this commercial was not only tacky, but extremely offensive and insensitive. I had to put one of my kitties to sleep 2 days before Christmas, so it was especially upsetting to me to see such a tasteless commercial.”

Lynnda King, CA
“You’re not funny & whatever ad agency you are using should be fired. Along with the knucklehead that ok’d this commercial. I can easily live without your products but not without my pets….ugly!”

The boycott against Frito Lay and PepsiCo for airing a very anti-cat Doritos commercial during the Super Bowl is gaining strength as more cat lovers from around the world are signing Cat Galaxy’s online petition to have the offensive Doritos commercial removed from the airwaves. Many of them have said they no longer will be buying Frito Lay and PepsiCo products. At present time close to 800 signatures have been collected and the list is growing. Here is what some cat lovers that signed petition had to say:

Pat Honsberger, TX
“Living in a city that has its share of cat (and dog) abuse and killing, this is no laughing matter! This commercial does not belong on any television program!!!. As a former employee and customer of Frito-Lay, I am appalled at the company’s support of this ad!”

Ruthann Booher, TN
“We had a cat that was killed by a dog. This commercial is not funny, informative or an enticement to purchase your products. It’s just disgusting and very upsetting.”

Kim Overhamm, AZ
“It’s inexcusable to profit in any way from the suffering of another, in this case cats. The Doritos ad is extremely insensitive and offensive, and promotes the killing of cats. Shame on you!”

Nancy Modjeski, MS
“Many family pets have been killed by neighborhood dogs & this was one of the most insensitive commercials I’ve have ever seen. I will definitely boycott Pepsi & Frito Lay products from now on unless a public retraction is made.”

Dr. Gail Cutler, CA
“As a veterinarian, I was aghast that a cat killing dog and a complicit owner were found to be funny. A sad commentary on our society, and on the company who makes one of my ‘former’ favorite snacks.”

Cat lovers are certainly making their voices heard and have been spreading the word about the boycott. The commercial titled “Man’s Best friend” was originally produced by Jonathan Friedman a consumer from Virginia Beach, VA as part of a national advertising contest by sponsored by Frito Lay. His payoff for having the winning entry, $1 million but is it worth it knowing just how many people, particularly cat lovers were upset by his idea?

While it’s un-imaginable that people would even vote for a commercial that advocates that killing a cat is ok, even more surprising is Frito Lay and PepsiCo chose to air it when they should’ve been disqualifying the entry. There are more tasteful ways to sell a product and obviously Frito Lay and PepsiCo didn’t use common sense. If losing customers was their plan, they succeeded.

An online petition started by Cat Galaxy to have a Doritos commercial featuring an owner being bribed by his dog to look the other way after burying a missing cat is gaining a little steam and now has over 500 signatures from cat lovers, not just in the United States but from around the world. A lot of them are stating they will no longer buy any Frito Lay or Pepsi products.

While the opposition (those who find the commercial amusing) is saying they find this commercial funny, those that truly love cats and see them as members of the family are not seeing humor in a dog killing a cat. In fact, they’re making their voices clear including those in the animal rescue community.

Jeanmarie Schiller-McGinnis who is the President of The Hermitage Cat Shelter In Tucson, AZ says:

“Cruelty towards animals, especially cats, is an unfortunate reality that goes unpunished all too often. This commercial just pokes fun at a very horrible reality for many poor cats who have been attacked, maimed and worse by dogs. Would you have found it funny if the victim was a neighborhood child that was killed and buried by the dog? I don’t think so. This ad was offensive and painful for anyone who has lost a beloved cat to a dog attack. Please bury this ad instead.”

No doubt, cat lovers are starting to make their voices heard. We’re also gaining ground with other media outlets as well with this petition. This week we were interviewed on WFMU Radio in New Jersey on their show called the Aerial View about the boycott as well.

The simple truth is, true cat and animal lovers believe that commercials can be done tastefully without the need for 4-legged creatures being killed. The most heart breaking stories from those signing our petition have been from those that have seen the horror of not only cats that have been abused but also have been killed by vicious dogs. In fact the Doritos commercial is bringing back painful memories for them.

Matt Penrod a cat lover from Washington DC had one if his cat’s attacked and killed by a dog. He says

“I was deeply offended by this ad. I am a cat lover who lost a beloved cat to a dog attack years ago. To think that you and others think this subject is funny makes me sick to my stomach. You have offended millions of cat lovers and I hope you pay the price. I am boycotting Doritos.”

The biggest problem with the ad is not only a cat being killed but that it shows just how anti-cat some companies are. Yes, the ad was very much negative towards cats and created by a consumer that obviously has a problem with them. His reward was receiving $1 million for it. Even more disturbing is people voted it as their favorite commercial, and of course Frito Lay and PepsiCo pushed forward to air it.

You have to wonder if they still think it was worth it to air such a commercial knowing how upset many cat lovers would be? One thing’s for sure they may regret it, as cat lovers not only are passionate about their cats but also are willing to let their buying power speak for itself.

Like many consumers they’re meowing their displeasure loud and clear and saying NO to Pepsi and Frito Lay. The question, is how long will it take the big giants to listen? And even bigger question is, how much loss in revenue will it take before they do?

If you’re interested in signing the petition to get the Doritos commercial finally off the air then go to: www.thepetitionsite.com/1/doritos-commercial-is-offensive-to-cats-cat-lovers

The commercials during the Super Bowl are always in plentiful supply, but one in particular has cat lovers hissing and spitting, and rightfully so. One commercial that aired during this year’s Super Bowl shows a dog bribing its owner about a missing and now presumed killed cat. The dog then continues to bury the cat’s collar into the ground where the cat’s body is now presumed to be. The owner then looks at a sign that shows a picture of the missing cat. The dog then hands the human a note with a bag of Doritos that says “YOU DIDN’T SEE NUTHIN.” The human smiles and accepts the bribe. No doubt this type of commercial is indeed offensive especially to those that not only love cats but also that feel animal abuse or the killing of a cat is no laughing matter.

Yes, animal abuse is indeed a serious issue and cat lovers are making their voices clear on the issue and that it’s not funny. While millions of cats are euthanized every year at an animal shelters across the United States, some fall victim to animal cruelty. The commercial that aired during this year’s Super Bowl obviously showed that Frito Lay and its head company PepsiCo has not taken this issue too seriously and may not have realized just how many cats or cat lovers they would offend. One thing’s for sure, they sure didn’t use their brains when they decided to allow this commercial to hit the airwaves.

Here at Cat Galaxy, we take our love and respect for cats very seriously. Animal abuse is also one of those topics not be made light of. Already we’ve heard from cat lovers across the planet that have lost their cats to dog attacks or fell victim to some kind of cruelty. They watched the commercial and have made their voices very clear, it’s not a laughing matter.

Here at Cat Galaxy we’re proud to be the voice for cats everywhere. This is why we started a petition online to insist that Frito Lay and PepsiCo remove the commercial from the airwaves and of course make sure it doesn’t see the light of day. While we are a member of the media and usually try to be well balanced, we can’t also stand by and remain silent about the issue of animal abuse.

There are some who would say we should lighten up and that it’s just a commercial, but advertising shows a particular message and this one certainly can be taken in the context that animal abuse is acceptable. The fact of the matter is, it isn’t. We hope many of you will sign the petition online which will be sending to Frito Lay and PepsiCo and make your voices heard. We certainly will be speaking out for the cats. After all, we’re a station run by them and their voices certainly deserve to be heard. Thank you.
