The second presidential debate is in the books and as expected Governor Mitt Romney wins another round but this time it wasn’t as easy the first one. After an abysmal first round Obama despite the lies and spin of the last 4 years came out fighting and at times very aggressive towards his opponent. Despite the moderator Candy Crowley attempting to help the anointed ones at times, Romney still came out on top and had most of his facts straight. Of course, what a fight for a town hall type setting.
The debate included the typical questions where audience members asked about jobs and the economy and while Obama thought he was coming out ahead on the domestic issues, Romney fought back using facts. Yes, Obama has refused more oil drilling permits in favor of giving money to failed green companies like Solyndra and also sent our dollars overseas to build windmills in Denmark, but the king still tries to make the load of fertilizer he’s been dumping on the American people smell good. In fact, when the talk came to investing in companies in China, Obama tried to make it look like Romney is the only one in business that’s done that. Of course, Obama has a selective memory and has also invested in the market in China.
Another topic that came up that hasn’t been talked about in the debate is immigration. That question came up when an audience member asked about those who don’t have their green cards (and were supposedly living as productive members of society) and how Romney and Obama would handle things. Romney stated it pretty clearly.
“We’re going to have to stop illegal immigration. There are 4 million people who are waiting in line to get here legally. Those who’ve come here illegally take their place. So I will not grant amnesty to those who have come here illegally.”
Obama put his own spin on things by making Romney appear as if he was someone who massively deport people based on skin color. He mentioned SB 1070 as the model Governor Romney would follow.
“Part of the Arizona law said that law enforcement officers could stop folks because they suspected maybe they looked like they might be undocumented workers and check their papers. You know what? If my daughter or yours looks to somebody like they’re not a citizen, I don’t want — I don’t want to empower somebody like that,” Obama said.
I guess if you want to win the Latino vote or that of the pro-illegal crowd, you play the race card. Critics of SB 1070 have continuously tried to get the law eliminated in Arizona because they claim law enforcement would arrest people because of their skin color. The law doesn’t mention race or color in it. The pro-illegal immigration supporters and Latino groups have however injected race in the law where there isn’t any.
Interestingly enough, it wasn’t the topic of illegal immigration that was a sticking point with Obama or the supposed war on women. It was the incident that happened in Benghazi, Libya. A member of the audience asked probably the one question that was on a lot of people’s minds. Who was it that denied enhanced security and why? Yes, we all know that Ambassador Chris Stevens and his staff before he and 3 other Americans were killed requested more security protection because they felt an attack on the consulate was imminent. That request was denied.
The outcome of that request being turned down was 4 dead Americans and an Obama administration doing what they can to sweep it under the rug. In this debate, Obama did what he could to avoid the issue by having them go onto the next question. Romney was quick to remind Obama that it wasn’t a protest that caused the incident or even a YouTube video, it was the result of a terrorist attack which Obama’s administration was warned would happen. Obama didn’t even state it was a terrorist attack. Yes, he used the word attack but fell short to saying to the world it was a terrorist attack. He like Susan Rice and the rest of his administration called it a spontaneous demonstration at least until 2 weeks later when the story changed. In this debate you could tell Obama wanted to run for the hills when the question was posed. Obama doesn’t like answering any questions about Benghazi or the Middle East being on fire.
Overall, despite the debate ending on the issue of automatic weapons and violence, two things were ultimately clear. Romney still hit on all the key points and showed the world once again that he isn’t the monster the Obama administration and the Democrats have made him out to be. He’s shown he has what it takes to be President. The polls are also showing the numbers and in key states, Romney has turned things around. Obama has fallen in the polls but the only one that matters is on November 6th. On that day we’ll either elect a new President with a chance of turning our country around or the continued reign of a socialist leader. Which one are you hoping for?
The final presidential debate takes place on October 22 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.
