The cats of Safe Haven For Animals will receive a special escort to their adoption event tomorrow from Calico, a new feline loving superhero, in an effort to promote National Adopt A Cat Month which begins June 1st. Safe Haven and Calico will be at the Choice Pet Market located at 10810 N Tatum Blvd in Phoenix on Saturday June 1st from 11am – 3pm. The public is welcome to attend and take pictures.
Originally created by local business owner and cat lover Nohl Rosen, Calico is a superhero who rescues and protects cats from harm and the character will be used to promote awareness about cat related issues as well encourage people to adopt them. The character made its first appearance recently at Phoenix Comicon 2013 and will pose for pictures with the public at Safe Haven’s adoption event. Rosen is calling it Cosplay For A Cat Cause and has invited other cosplayers in the Phoenix metro to show up at the various animal adoption events that Safe Haven is hosting in costume.
“I was looking for a way to reach out to the public in a unique way and share my love of cats with everyone. I also want to encourage cat adoptions and let people know about what Safe Haven does to help them. Adopt A Cat Month seemed like the perfect opportunity to put the costume on again to help encourage that,” Rosen said.
As far as the heat goes, Rosen says although it can get hot in the costume, he doesn’t mind it as long as the cats find good homes. He plans on wearing it to a few of Safe Haven’s other adoption events throughout the month. When not playing a superhero for cats he runs a computer repair business called Panther TEK.
